Today we will do things that scare the shit out of us. We will eat things we never heard of. We will listen to music that we think is beneath us. (Rap and Country). Today we will stop telling ourselves who we are and we will go out and make ourselves who we might become. “I’m not good with technology. I can’t remember people’s names. I’m not into blondes or brunettes or gingers or members of the same sex. I don’t understand why some people like going to plays or reading books instead of just watching the movie.” Today we will stop saying these things. Today we will stop thinking these things. Today we will step from our carpeted cells and plunge headlong into the melee of living. We will wear clothes that don’t match just so we can feel uncomfortable in public. We will talk to people we never thought we would meet. We will take the bus. We will start finger painting. We’ll learn how to skateboard even though we are in our forties and fifties. We will shut off CNN and Fox News and watch a few episodes of The Regular Show. We will dance alone naked in our houses. Sober. We will shut off our televisions and sit somewhere in the middle of a crowd, sticking out like a white woman at the Million Man March. And we will learn to yodel. Today we will run out of our houses, stand there in the middle of our front lawns, and we will scream out so we startle our neighbors. We will yell out “I don’t know everything! The world is bigger than I have allowed it to be!” We will scream from the depths of our dissatisfaction and will decide to not just live life but to attack it! We will stare into the frightful face of fear and will all yell out “CHARGE!!!”
