“If you don’t have enough time to meditate 20 minutes every day, you should meditate 1 hour every day.”
That’s something I heard years ago regarding my meditation practice. It’s true. If you don’t have enough time to meditate, that’s all the more reason you should. I’m not going to break into an essay on the benefits of meditation, I’m just going to say this: Learn how to meditate, in the Zen tradition, and do it daily. Period. If I didn’t have zazen I would be a victim of my addictions, would fall into the abyss of depression, and would have committed suicide years ago. I’m alive because of zen meditation and the subsequent haiku training that it segued me into. If you have time to meditate, do it. If you don’t have time to meditate, it’s critical that you make the time. Stop living in crisis mode. Stop living with a clenched fist. Open up and live from your center. Zazen.
