Sunrise is @ 0649 today.
I woke up at five this morning. I will be waking up at this time for most of the rest of my life. My counselor suggested I return to some of my old habits; positive ones. So I will be waking up at five in the morning on a rather consistent basis. Weekends I can sleep in, till seven. Truly, this is the metamorphosis of the Five Society. Although it is Saturday, I chose to not sleep in. I have the sunset to watch, more coffee to drink. I’ve already done light calisthenics; ready for a nice slow walk. It’s fun to watch the world while the world is still asleep. The songbirds, the larks, the mocking birds and chipping sparrows … these are my companions. A fish crow is squawking at me, telling me to go away. I’m sorry Corvus, but I’m here, and we’re going to have to just learn to share.
I remember a girl who never got out of bed until almost ten every morning. She was lazy, lethargic, depressed. I refuse to continue going down that road. It’s time to hold strongly to five o’clock. This is my handhold, the line to which I cling while in the fog and chaos. Five o’clock is the watchtower, the benchmark, the gate keeper, the portal through which I explore an undiscovered country.
Arise! Get your coffee, do some yoga, read the funnies, go for a walk, watch the sunrise, prepare the day. Join me, won’t you? The Five Society; just one rule: arise at five, five days a week. And text me when you do. It helps with accountability.
