The more you run a place, the more you belong to it. I meant to run 20 minutes today. Instead it was over an hour. And I intentionally adjusted my route. I’m glad I did. Found a nice large park in my neighborhood. Almost stumbled into it. Then, without noticing it at first, I found myself running with a group of bunnies. Yes, rabbits. Fifty of them! They didn’t seem bothered at all that I was running through their feeding area. Some would chomp grass, others would peek up at me, others would hop leisurely, while others seemed to be playfully running with me. Probably not. On my way back, as to not disturb them, I ran from the park an altered route. And there, in front of me, is a road runner. Much like the cartoon. She ran alongside me for a hundred feet or so. Her neck and head jutting forward, her tail feathers stretched straight back. She was probably chasing me away from her babies. I can’t imagine she had fun running with me. But I had fun running with her. A road runner and fifty bunnies. Oh, and a lake, a dilapidated desert trail, and the unfortunate but necessary act of crapping behind a dumpster. All just now. I’m happy to be alive.
